Hebrew word " 'abal"

Today we will do a word study from the Old Testament.

   The word is 'abal   ab-awl

apparently from ''abal' (56) through the idea of negation; nay, i.e. truly or yet:--but, indeed, nevertheless, verily.

   1) abal- but

2Chron. 1:4   But the ark of God had David brought up52 from Kirjathjearim to [the place which] David had prepared53 for it: for he had pitched1 a tent for it at Jerusalem.

Daniel 10:7    And I Daniel alone saw1 the vision: for the men that were with me saw1 not the vision; but a great quaking fell1 upon them, so that they fled4 to hide9 themselves.

2) abal-indeed

Genesis 17:19     And God said,4 Sarah thy wife shall bear6 thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call1 his name Isaac: and I will establish52 my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, [and] with his seed after him.

2 Sam14:5    And the king said4 unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered,4 I [am] indeed a widow woman, and mine husband is dead.4

3) abal- Nevertheless

2Chron 19:3     Nevertheless there are good things found8 in thee, in that thou hast taken away14 the groves out of the land, and hast prepared52 thine heart to seek2 God.

4) abal-verily

Genesis 42:21    And they said4 one to another, We [are] verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw1 the anguish of his soul, when he besought99 us, and we would not hear;1 therefore is this distress come1 upon us.

1Kings 1:43    And Jonathan answered4 and said4 to Adonijah, Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king.52

There are a few other meanings for the word ' abal ' in the O.T.  I just wanted the reader to note that when you are studying the Word of God, it is a good thing to keep in mind that one meaning that you may know of is not necessarily the same meaning at other points in the Bible. This lack of understanding tends to throw off many people.    ALWAYS have a concordance when you study or use one of the many that are on-line!
