Casting All Your Care Upon Him...
This letter was written to a group in Northwest Asia that were being persecuted in many ways. Because of all of the harassment and such, they were becoming scared and were filled with alot of anxiety and worry. In the New Testament, it is stated over and over that Jesus Christ is the is the source of sufficiency for all of our needs, problems, desires, demands, and so forth. Jesus is enough to take on all of our ups and downs in this life! Jesus is our peace to all of God's people.A peace that "passes knowledge and understanding." How do we get this peace which flows out from Jesus? Peter says that it is by casting all of our care . . . our anxiety . . . our worry, upon the Lord, for He cares for us. How do we do this? By humbling yourself under God's hand."Cast" your care upon the Lord. "Care" in this passage means anxiety, worry, concern, or even fear. To "cast" means to throw something upon someone else. The same verb is used in Luke 19:35 where the disciples toss (or cast) their cloaks over a donkey to make a saddle for Jesus. This falls under the "Let Go,et God' phrase. Your action is to take your many concerns that surround you and to give them up to the Lord. Let God worry about how to fix your problems and other anxieties. If God himself is not worried about them, then why should you be? We are Christians and as such we have been made free from anxiety and worry! We have inherited peace from both of these things and many more.
So the next time that you start to get worried or anxious about the concerns in life that are trying to overwhelm you, take your stand as a child of God and give those problems to Him, along with some praise!
