Manifestation's Of The Holy Spirit

This is not a study of the nine manifestation's of the Holy Spirit. That will come later.    I am presenting this article as an example of very bad teaching when it comes to this subject.     In the article,which you must click the link to, the author makes the claim that these manifestations were withdrawn back in the early church and the author states that:   "There is evidence that these gifts were already being withdrawn before the end of Paul's ministry.    It is worth noting that only " the gift of healing" was called a gift. the rest of the powers are called  manifestations.     The author uses the verse below for his argument.  I Corinthians 13:8-10 “Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.”     I am referring to the last sentence in particular. As the last verse above states, “when that which is perfect (Gr, teleios: complete)2 is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.” It makes sense that when God was through inspiring the Scriptures to be written, there would no longer be a need to have more parts coming with the gifts of the Spirit.          Article Here in PDF    I submit to the reader that this passage is speaking on Christ's final return when he comes back to reign forever more!     Why do I say this? Because for better than 20 years I have been speaking in tongues on a very regular basis. I believe that it is the best way to feel God in your presence and that it is perfect prayer. I have also been blessed a few times with the power of a few of the other manifestation during my lifetime.    God would not tell us to speak in tongues or to prophecy,or to have faith or heal if it was no longer available! In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don't know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can't be uttered. He who searches the hearts knows what is on the Spirit's mind, because he makes intercession for the saints according to God. -- Romans 8:26-27 (WEB) "Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us..." (Romans 8:26). The Holy Spirit will guide you into all the truth (John 16:13) and He will teach you to pray. Sometimes we do not know what to pray for, and so we can pray in the Spirit (Romans 8:26). We can pray in tongues without understanding, even for hours, according to the will of God. However, Paul stated that he prayed with the spirit and with the understanding (1Corinthians 14:15). Our whole being, including our minds, should be involved in praying. Our minds should understand what we are asking God for. However, we can pray with the spirit (in tongues) when our minds need a rest (Isaiah 28:11,12)    In the near future I will deal with the manifestations on a single basis.   Technorati tags: Holy Spirit, Manifestations
